Charles Hernu (1923-1990), a loyal political ally of the late French president François Mitterrand, is for most known only for his role in the deadly bombing attack on the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior, when he was defence minister between 1981 and 1985. But Hernu's life is darkened by other scandals.
